You should always refer to the product manual that came with your fireplace / fire pit / patio heater.
The designs in our collection cannot be customized. We do however offer burners on their own. Many designers and contractors will create their own designs with our burners.
Let's start with recessed (or built-in) installation. This is when you create a niche in a wall and insert the back of the fireplace in it.
Flush mount installation is a type of recessed installation when the frame of the fireplace sits right on top of the wall surface (flush) without any gaps while the back of the fireplace is recessed into a wall.
And zero clearance term is usually used in reference to fireplace inserts. It means that they can be installed directly against combustible materials like wood, walls, or paneling. Basically, zero clearance inserts can be flush mounted.
How big of a hole do I frame?
Framing dimensions can be found in the Installation manual of each fireplace.
Select a location that is not prone to moisture and is located at least 3 ft. away from combustible materials such as curtains or drapes, furniture, bedding, paper, etc.
Please refer to the manual for the dimensions.
We don't offer installation services. You can install a lot of our fireplaces yourself or hire a regular contractor.
If you are looking to install a built-in electric fireplace or any other fireplace that needs to be hardwired, we recommend hiring a certified electrician for the job.

Long press on the up and down arrows on the fire unit to toggle between Fahrenheit and Celsius. On the remote control, select the I for information button and then the C or F button. Toggle with the arrow to the desired readout.
Yes, but only by the factory. Not just any technician will be able to adjust the touchscreen sensitivity.
The remote comes pre-programmed. No programming is necessary.
Yes. Every 2 to 3 years the light bulbs, readily available at any hardware store, will need to be replaced. You will be able to do this easily yourself. Most other fireplaces require ongoing, costly maintenance, which must be performed by qualified service technicians.
No! Dimplex Fireplaces and Stoves operate for pennies a day. The flame uses slightly under 300 Watts of power. With an average electricity rate, the unit operates for a remarkable 3¢ per hour providing all the warmth, ambiance and romance of a fireplace. When you choose to activate the heat feature along with the flame, the unit uses approximately 1500 Watts. The total cost to operate the flame and heater is approximately 8 per hour (gas fireplace manufacturers regularly advertise running costs of 17¢ per hour)! Electricity rates vary. 8 ¢ per hour based on heater cycling at 50%.
Dimplex fireplaces and stoves have full electrical certification throughout North America for complete peace of mind. To ensure the safety of your family members, no combustible energy sources are used to produce the flame. This means that you never need to worry about oxygen depletion or carbon monoxide poisoning in your home. The glass remains cool to the touch to ensure children don't burn their hands on the glass. It also does not contribute to indoor moisture or mold concerns. Other features include impact resistant safety glass and safety cut out with reset controls.
Yes! Unlike gas fireplaces, which require venting fuel pipelines, a Dimplex or Stove just needs to be unplugged! When you need a change you can move it to a different room and when you move to a new home you can take your investment with you
Yes! Just take it home and plug it in! Dimplex Fireplaces or Stoves plug into any standard 120-volt outlet and do not require a dedicated circuit. It's as easy as plugging in a lamp! In addition, a Dimplex fireplace or stove does not require any venting pipelines for fuel or expensive professional reconstruction to your home. Whether a Dimplex fireplace or stove is being installed into one of our many attractive mantels or into an existing fireplace opening, installation is fast and easy!
Yes. Dimplex fireplaces and stoves have controls that allow you to adjust the background light and speed of the flame to create an ambiance to suit any mood.
Will the Dimplex fireplace insert fit into my existing fireplace opening?
The Dimplex fireplace insert is designed to fit just about any fireplace opening with ease.
Dimplex fireplaces and stoves are 100% efficient. All of the energy supplied to the unit is converted into heat, which stays in the room to keep you warm. Many gas fireplaces advertise 70-80% efficiency. This means that 20-30% of the energy supplied to the units is vented outside.
Yes, most electric fireplaces operate on 110/120V electric current and use approximately 1500 Watts per hour, at full power. Your utility charges you based our your Kilowatt usage per hour (kW/h). Multiply your cost per Kilowatt-hour by 1.5 to determine the maximum cost per hour to operate your electric fireplace. For example, 1500 Watts is equal to 1.5 kW/h. The flame effect also uses very little power and costs just a few cents per hour.
On average, electric is much cheaper than other forms of heating your home. Electric fireplaces are a terrific option for zone heating. By turning down your central thermostat and using your electric fireplace for supplemental heat in the room you are in, you can save money on your utility bill. For comparison; gas fireplace manufacturers regularly advertise average running costs of 30¢ per hour
Yes. Most of the fireplaces on our store can be operated with or without heat. Some of them also have variable heat and heat control features. Please refer to the product description for details on a particular product.
No, electric fireplaces do not emit any fumes, CO2, smoke, emissions or any pollutants.
Yes, you need to make sure that the outlet you plug your electric fireplace into is on a dedicated circuit breaker. If your Electric Fireplace is a built-in model that needs to be hardwired, a new circuit breaker and wiring is required.
No, the glass front always remains cool to the touch and is perfectly safe for children and pets. The heating element is separate from the flame effect area. The heating elements are set behind safety screens and do not get hot enough to burn
No, our fireplaces are all vent free, so there is no need for any chimney, venting, or gas lines. There is no open flame, no mess or clean up either. You may place or install them on an outside or inside wall, upstairs or down. They are a great option for any home, apartment or condo.
All The Bio Flame fireplaces, burners, grate kits, and fireboxes are UL Listed, except for the 13" round burner and grate kit, 60" burner, 72" firebox, Lotte, Pure, Allure, Evoque and Static.
Yes. Most of the ethanol fireplaces can be used anywhere indoors as long as the wall models are mounted according to directions. Floor and stand models are safe to place on carpeting.
All models should be positioned at least 3 feet from any flammable materials. The room should have windows and be well ventilated.
Ethanol (Bio-Ethanol) Fuel burns clean without emitting any harmful toxins into the air, with only harmless water vapor produced as a byproduct and a small amount of Carbon Dioxide. Make sure you ONLY use liquid bio-ethanol fuel for fireplaces, as any other kind of fuel can emit harmful toxins or be unsafe. Ethanol fireplaces do produce real flame, so any common sense precautions apply when it comes to pets and kids.
There are no legal or other regulations from the government bodies or elsewhere for decorative fireplaces that run on alcohol. The fireplaces qualify under burning candles category in legal fire regulations. Our products are laboratory tested and we have never been notified within the final report that in order for these products to be installed indoors one would have to (or that it would be advisable to) install any additional ventilation system. Nevertheless, Ethanol Fireplaces are to be used - above all - with common sense, so the flame should never be left unattended and the only ventilation you should have in the room with an ethanol-run fireplace is a window, which you can open if it gets too hot.
Ethanol Fireplaces have real flames hence standard safety precautions apply when installing these. We should not install these on flammable materials and it should be mounted at a safety distance. Cabinets are usually made of wood which is considered a flammable material hence we do not recommend you doing so.
No, the fireplace is not a cooking element. It will damage the burners. Faulty handling is not covered under warranty.
It is made out of carbon steel used for decoration and stability.
It is not recommended to add any fragrance scent to the water as it may cause damage to the burner. Normal tap water can be used in the Opti-myst® as long as the tap water is not considered to be hard water. In the event your tap water is hard, you may use softened water or distilled water with ⅛ tsp. of salt (0.5 mL) added to the water reservoir. (The use of additional salt should only be when you notice that the unit is not producing mist as expected.)
Water vapor cassettes (Opti-myst and Afirewater) can be completely open, no glass walls required.
Dimplex Opti-Myst Pro water vapor cassettes don't need a chimney or a vent because they don't produce any dangerous emissions. However, you will still need the fresh air venting, regardless if you are installing the cassette completely out in the open or if you completely enclose it with glass. The cassette itself needs that fresh air return/circulation to ensure the flames continue to flow upwards and not roll back down into the cassette which would damage the inner electronic boards.
To ensure you don’t get condensation if you are enclosing the cassette with glass, it would be a good idea to go with the Pro Box or ensure the fresh air venting is completely on point.
You also want to make sure that the unit is serviceable so even if you glassed it in, you would be able to open one side and service the unit if need be.
If you go with the Pro-box, you get the built-in heater (optional) as well as the built-in fresh air venting and the glass. The backside of the box can always be knocked out to give double-sided.
Please see the air vent diagram below.
No. Heat causes humidity to rise and the mist of these fireplaces do not emit heat. To ensure you don’t get condensation on a Dimplex water vapor cassette if you are enclosing the cassette with glass, you may want to leave just a little open space to ensure the fresh air venting is completely on point.
There are special logs designed specifically for the Dimplex Opti-Myst cassettes that you can purchase as an additional accessory. For the aFirewater models, however, there are no special logs that are made for this brand (like there are for Opti-Myst for example) so, you might have to improvise with other loose decorative logs that are available for electric and ethanol fireplaces.
Though water vapor fireplaces look realistic, you can actually reach out and touch the flames, as they are cold to the touch. However, Modern Blaze does offer water vapor fireplaces that come with a heat receptacle, to get the clean emission-free flame with the benefit of warmth, like the popular Dimplex Opti-Myst Pro 1000 Firebox.
All other water vapor fireplaces don't come with a heater, however, the heater can be purchased separately and added to Dimplex Opti Myst Pro Cassettes, Opti-Myst 500 and Opti-Myst pro 1000
If you are concerned about ambiance, the appearance of your décor and creating a more relaxing environment, infratech infrared quartz elements are always the best choice. Infratech quartz elements provide comfortable medium wave heat. Competitive products with shortwave halogen elements produce more intense heat while emitting very bright and harsh-colored light. By contrast, Infratech medium wave elements effectively heat your space, while providing a soft, warm glow that is practically unnoticeable
Yes. There are two ways to integrate our solid-state controls into your home management system. One permits on/off and timer functionality only, by switching the 120-volt power to the analog remote. The second way allows for full integration with our controls designed to accept a 0-10-volt DC signal from the home management system, to vary the intensity of the heater
Using a 110/120-volt heater (1,500 watts maximum) is fine for enclosed areas like garages, indoor work areas or outdoor spaces no larger than 5' x 5'. When heating larger areas, running a dedicated 110/120-volt circuit is not practical or economical. A 240-volt circuit will require the same amount of wiring, will heat substantially larger areas with greater comfort, and will simply require two spaces in the breaker panel, rather than one.
Operating costs vary by region. Nationwide, electric heaters are less expensive than propane and are competitive with natural gas. Depending upon the total hours of usage, electric heaters normally have a much lower cost of ownership when factoring in the purchase price and maintenance needs. Basically, this means that while it can cost more per hour to operate an electric unit in some areas, it typically takes 7-10 years to save enough money operating on gas to recover the substantially higher purchase price-not to mention the cost of regular maintenance for a gas heater.
Electric heaters are economical to operate. It is easy to estimate your operating cost by multiplying the total kilowatts by your local power rate for a "kilowatt-hour" (kwh). Standard power rates vary from market to market. Your rate should appear on any monthly utility statement. For example, a typical 3,000 watt (3 KW) heater, at full power, would cost 39¢ per hour based on a utility rate of 13¢ per kwh. Also, keep in mind that your electric heater has a lower acquisition cost.
Infratech Elements are rated for 5,000 hours of continuous use. In many installations, you may enjoy your heater for years before a replacement would be needed. Always refer to the W-Series manual for specific instructions, and be sure to disconnect the power to your heater before attempting to change an element.
Always choose a heater size with the appropriate heat output for the mounting height and area to cover. By selecting a smaller unit, you may require more heaters to get the same amount of heat output. If you are choosing a dual element unit for aesthetic purposes, you will be concentrating more heat into a tighter space. Again, this may mean that you will possibly require more fixtures to provide total coverage of your area. Patio heating is often a compromise between functionality and finding the desired look.

The amount of BTUs required for your home is dependent on several factors such as the climate in your area, and several features of your home including the size, the floor plan (single-storey or two-storey), the room layouts, the quality of insulation, the quantity of windows, and the location of the fireplace / stove. On average, 5000 BTUs can heat up approximately 450 square feet, depending on floor plan, windows, ceiling height, etc.
If you are deciding on the BTUs for your ethanol fireplace
Dimensions are different for each model. We recommend identifying first how much space do you have for the fireplace and reach to us. We are always happy to recommend products based on your dimensions.
